Wisconsin walnut Council Board Meeting 4/18/06 Dodgeville, Wisconsin, DNR Office Meeting called to order at 9:15 Members present: Dan Bohlin, Bill Carlson, Larry Severied, Ingrid Olson, John Nielsen, Alan Rault, and John Ouellette. Jason Sable arrived later in the meeting. Old Business: Field studies: Larry Severied Larry Severied spoke about gathering data on Acrobasis. They are monitoring in relation to time of pruning, frost damage, or planting method (seedling vs. direct seeding). Rudi Nigl is doing a planting with “resistant” stock from Michigan. Action: Suggestion that updates of project is put on the website. Al Goetsch seed day follow up. Cascade was the only group that got seed last year. Stock will be available next spring. Action: Bill Carlson will contact Greg Edge about May 1st meeting. Larry Severied has a Butternut canker resistant planting on his farm. Treasury Report: John Ouellette Ouellette stated there is about $5000. Action: Need a check for 50$ to National for two new members. Door prize winners at the Tri state stewardship meeting. Web Site Committee report: Alan Rault Steady traffic on web site, 10-12 hits per day. Google is the #1 access port. WOWA is #5. Action: John and Bill will check to see if links are on DNR sites. Exhibit Committee: John Nielsen Tri State meeting big success. Comments: need new pictures, sign with Website, inventory of brochures and application. Action: John will make sign and inventory New dates: WOWA Sept 7-11 Marketing Committee: John Ouellette Exploring options; Craig Yeager, High Grade Lumber; Sustainable Wood Net. Membership Committee: Dan Bohlin Web Site is working, 152 members as of March 06. Action: Send a reminder about renewal with Meeting announcements. Include the web site. Comment: Let's try to track what ways are successful in getting new members. Public Relations Committee: Ingrid Olson Add is in WOWA magazine, $150 for 4 publications National is looking for feedback on new brochure. Ingrid will ship it around. Larry Severied has an article in WOWA. It’s free. Spring Field Day: Bill Carlson Big Springs, May 20th. Will include direct seeding, BMP bridge, Fish shocking. Brown Bag Lunch Action: Bill will try and get Greg Edge and Larry Schmitt from the DNR there. Fall Field Day: Bill Carlson Bill has been in contact with landowner and local DNR forester. It is still a go for Oct. 21, 2006. Action Need evening meal and eating location and place for overnighters. Bill will follow up. Natural Resources Foundation Tour: Sept. 24th ate the Rule Walnut Demonstration Forest National Meeting: Larry Severied Volunteered State to host in 2 to 3 years. Have to start planning. New Business Motion: Severied moved to make $200 available for tubes for acrobasis project on Alan Rault's. 2nd by Olson. Motion passed. Severied will work out protocols with Rault. Nielsen distributed walnut handout for review. Will make copies available for display. Meeting adjourned
