Minutes of the Wisconsin Walnut Council Membership Meeting

October 15, 2005

White House Inn, Richland Center

Board Members Present: Odel Anderson, John Ouellette, Dan Bohlin, Jason Sable, Matt Singer

Advisors Present: John Nielsen

Approximately 20 members present

1. President Odel Anderson called the meeting to order at about 3:30.

2. The Minutes from the last meeting were read by Secretary Jason Sable from last board member's meeting Feb 2005. The minutes were accepted as read.

3. The Treasurer's report was read when John Ouellette arrived and accepted as submitted. The treasurer reported a balance of $5528.32 on file with Jason Sable, Secretary.

4. Committee Reports:

a. Membership committee- Dan Bohlin: At current count there are 147 members. Anyone joining at this time will be members through next year.

b. Improvement of trees and nuts- Odell Anderson for Larry Severeid: A brief update on the acrobasis study was given on the 3 sites. Larry Krotz gave more information on the site in Iowa and what happened this season.

c. Nominating Committee- Matt Singer: Matt had a couple of officers in mind for nomination and anyone who had people in mind please let a board member know.

d. Website & E-mail- Bob Wieland resigned as editor. Wayne Zimmerman is updating the website as we provide things to him.

e. Public Relations- No updates

f. Marketing- John Ouellette: No updates. John Nielsen recommended we get Wisconsin Family Forests to make a presentation at our next meeting.

g. Exhibits- John Nielsen: Exhibit used at light on the land field day at Blackhawk Ridge and Exotic Species Field day at Dan Bohlin's Farm in Grant County.

h. Winter Conference Madison Area Woodland Owners- WWC Meeting to be held before at the American Family Headquarters Feb. 18, 2006 from 8- 8:45 am. Presentations on Wildlife and Managed Forest Law Q & A.

 

5. Old Business:

a. Liability Insurance- Odell Anderson: Landowners are covered for field days. Board Members are not covered.

b. A clock was presented to Ron Jervis for serving on the past board.

6. New Business:

a. National Walnut Council Meetings:

2006- Nebraska City, NE at the National Arbor Day Conference Center

2007- Dubuque, IA

b. Need sites for Wisconsin WC Field Days for Spring and Fall 2006

c. WWOA Science Committee is sponsoring a trip to tour the direct seeding at Larry Krotz's Farm near Washington, Iowa

d. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 4:45 pm

e. President Odell Anderson and Co-secretary Matt Singer going off board, these 2 slots plus a vacant slot making 3 slots to fill.
