| Board Meeting
of Wisconsin Chapter of the Walnut Council |
Aug.
26, 2002 Ron Jervis's farm. Board members present: President Arthur Luttig,
VP Ron Jervis, Treas. Russ Moody.
Arthur suggested that we need to continue our efforts to increase promotion
and to do more communication with members. He has found that some ag.
newspapers will provide free articles for us.
It was the consensus of the group that we should immediately prepare one
newsletter to the membership describing events that will occur over the
next two months including a) the upcoming IL meeting which will include
a field day at Al Goetsch's property, b) the Wis. Chapter fall meeting
and c) the walnut gathering festival at Al Goetsch's.
IL Meeting The field day at Al's will include the cutting and sawing
of walnut logs.
The fall meeting is being planned for mid-Oct. and could include
talks on a) legal ramifications of visitors to your farm and asset protection
b) soil/taproot interactions and c) thinning. Ron Jervis has offered his
farm as a host for the day which could include thinning demonstrations.
Tentative date was set to be Oct. 12 but we later found that this conflicted
with a WWOA field day. Arthur and Ron will explore alternate dates
.
Several possible cooperators/sponsors for the fall meeting were discussed.
Bob Wieland's offer to cook meat was enthusiastically accepted. Ron will
explore rental of toilets, tents, tables and chairs. Russ will explore
on-site transportation assistance.
Nut gathering The Boscobel nursery was very pleased with the quality
of material gathered last year at Al Goetsch's and the DNR would like
to expand this years effort planned for Oct. 19. DNR will bring trucks
and Walnut Council will provide gatherers. Pres. Arthur encouraged board
members to be thinking of new candidates for board positions. Also, we
should be making efforts to get broader industry involvement in the Council.
After
Pres. Arthur excused himself, his expenses for the attendance at the annual
meeting in Maryland ($456.39) were approved recognizing the location of
the meeting. In addition, expenses of $100.22 for a membership mailing
were approved.
