Present: Matt Singer, Mike Pfanku, Russ Moody, Dan Bohlin, Odell
Anderson, Ron Jervis
Meeting called
to order by President Odell Anderson at 9:30 am.
Minutes of the
2-28-04 membership meeting passed out. Ron mentioned we should have
better minutes. Larry Severeid taped that meeting. Odell will improve
the existing minutes by viewing the video and updating the existing
written minutes of that meeting.
Ron mentioned that we need minutes/report of the May 1st field day.
Odell had written up a short summary of that field day that he submitted
to National. Matt will look it over and try to add to it. John Oullette
was taking some pictures that day, so Odell will contact John Oullette
to get the pictures and incorporate those pictures into what Matt
writes up.
Treasurer’s
report submitted by Treasurer Russ Moody. On file.
Spring Field
Day Report: about 55 attendees. Matt will write this up using Odell’s
short report as a start.
Upcoming 6-11-04
field day and acrobasis research project in Grant county (co-hosted
by WI-DNR, WI-SAF, and WWOA). Odell will try to get copies of printed
materials and handouts regarding acrobasis on that day.
National meeting
coming up July 25-28. Mike Pfanku, Dan Bohlin, Odell Anderson, Larry
Severeid will be attending. Odell will give report covering WWC
activities from March 5th, 2004 to July 24th. Odell will make sure
to bring up the continuing problem of the membership list problem.
The board said Odell should request that we have access to their
Wisconsin Membership database, so we can make sure both National
and our State databases are in sync.
Fall field day
Sept 25, 2004 at Ed Soleska’s in Jefferson county. Russ made
a motion that non-members accompanying a member be charged only
$10.00 instead of $15.00. Otherwise, price for members and non-members
alike to be $15.00, and $25.00 per couple. Ron 2nd, motion passed.
Discussion was held whether we should try to coordinate our fall
field day with nearby WWOA field day. Mike will look into this.
We need to plan the annual membership meeting to be held that Saturday
night, Sept. 25th. Mike Pfanku is in charge of planning.
Website and
P.C technology: Ron wants to keep things up to date and may be receiving
help from Wayne Zimmerman to maintain the website.
Ron is trying to develop a simple spreadsheet to track individual
walnut trees that others could eventually use on their own land
as well.
When making a mass-emailing to the general WWC members, we should
use “BCC”, not “To” so everyone will not
have access to everyone else’s e-mail addresses.
Membership Program:
Dan Bohlin update the WWC membership form. Matt will make copies
of this in the future on bright colored paper. We should work with
DNR foresters to have them displayed at DNR forestry offices, and
attempt to have the DNR foresters send out the application with
new MFL plans. Dan will call Carol Nielsen (WI DNR Forestry Tax
Law Section, Madison) to get MFL landowner list/labels for Grant
county to send them all a WWC application.
The display board will be manned at Sinsinawa in March 2005 (by
John Nielsen?), Matt will call and reserve a spot for the display.
Dan brought it to the Lake States Sustainable Forestry meeting and
his WWOA Open Woods field day. John and Dan will have it at the
Wilson Nursery (Boscobel) open house on June 12th.
The WWC winter
landowner meeting will no longer be held in conjunction with the
Madison Area Woodland Owners Conference. We will have our own meeting
at the American Family Insurance complex in Madison on Saturday,
January 15th, 2005. Dan Bohlin is in charge. Larry Severeid has
a list of potential speakers and topics. Breakfast cost is $5.25
and lunch cost is $8.95. The meeting room is free, there may be
a staffing cost. We should use this as an opportunity to bring in
non-members. We should open it up to the Illinois and Iowa WC chapters,
we would need to get a list of names and addresses from National.
There will be a BOD meeting to be held on Friday afternoon or night,
January 14th at the Marriot Hotel.
Marketing Committee
(Mike Pfanku and Ken Witte) is meeting on Tuesday, June 29th at
1:30 pm at Culvers in Spring Green. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Hopefully a list can be made by specialty products (stumps, crotches,
nuts, etc.) for members to use.
Old Business:
Ron said the National dropped the insurance coverage for the state
BODs’. Do we need liability insurance? Odell will call National
on this. Odell will look into this further at the National meeting
in July.
No new business
Next meeting:
Tuesday, August 3rd 9:30am-1pm at DNR south central region headquarters
on Fish Hatchery Rd on the south side of Madison. Address: 3911
Fish Hatchery Rd, Fitchburg, WI 53711
