Motion made by Larry Severeid and 2nd by Dean Jensen to transfer $1,000 not used at the National Meeting (LaCrosse) to the National Walnut Council Foundation to go for research and education. This $1,000 was a grant via the WI-DNR to help with LaCrosse National Meeting expenses. Discussion ensued. The Severeid/Jensen motion was eventually amended to advise the board to consider transferring this $1,000 at the next Board of Directors meeting. Passed on voice vote, no nays.

Spring Field Day Committee Report: given by Mike Pfanku. Tentative date of Friday, May 16th. Two stops in Iowa (casket factory and parquet flooring factory/sawmill). Public Relations and Exhibit Committee Report: given by John Nielsen.

Foreign Trip Committee Report : given by Art Luttig. Mentioned possible trips to Romania, China, Holland and Turkey. Asked people to sign up if interested.

Charter Revision Committee Report: given by Bob Weiland. This in process.

Russ Moody encouraged members to re-up their membership today. Discussion ensued as to policy regarding life members and state dues. This needs clarification at the next board of directors meeting.

Completion of the WEB SITE…….. for our Wisconsin Chapter of the Walnut Council, was a significant accomplisment in 2002. Please take a few minutes and visit the SITE at
www.wiscwalnutcouncil.org , where you can see more details about the ORGANIZATION, the latest and historical NEWS, including minutes of meetings and reports on events, the MEMBERSHIP Page, where you can use the “ application form “ to RENEW YOUR 2003 Membership, EVENTS SCHEDULE, and INFO LINKS

RENEW EARLY……….. by going to the WEB SITE’S Membership Page, and using the application form. Note that you can type-in all the appropriate information before running a copy with your printer. If you have already sent in your renewal in response to Nancy Gunning’s letter on renewing, that’s OK. However, whenever possible, we have adopted a new procedure of sending all new membership sign-ups and renewals first to:

Russell C. Moody, Treasurer
5300 Arrowhead Drive
Monona, WI 53716

Who will then record and forward your check ( made out to the WALNUT COUNCIL )
and application on to Nancy at the International Office in Indiana. The new process will greatly improve the accuracy of our Membership Data Base.

Please be sure to include your E – MAIL ADDRESS on the Application!!!!!!!!

E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS and greater use of PC TECHNOLOGY…… is a primary goal of our Chapter as we move into the 21st century. For instance, we look forward to the day when we can use ELECTRONIC MAIL to better communicate with the membership on a regular basis. For the WEB SITE, we are taking steps to allow members to renew with a credit card, and we are looking seriously at establishing a MARKETING PAGE for selling products and services, as a personal service for our members.

A NEW PROGRAM TO INCREASE MEMBERSHIP ………. Is being launched for 2003. Details will be presented at the 22Feb03 meeting. Currently, we have 133 “ paid-up” members as of 31Dec03, making us the largest chapter in the United States. By the end of the year, we hope to “ stand head and shoulders “ above any other Chapter.

IN SUMMARY ………. One hour is not enough time to fully cover everything that your Board of Directors, and other DNR Volunteers are working on, but we will do our best to at least cover the HIGHLIGHTS. And I think you will also enjoy the rest of the Conference………………

SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!

Ron Jervis, President

the Wisconsin Chapter
of the Walnut Council
