OFFICIAL MEETING MINUTES

B.O.D. Meeting Minutes, 8-21-03, Dodgeville DNR Office.
B.O.D. business meeting was called to order by President Ron Jervis at 2:00 PM. Executive Board Members present were Aaron Young, Arthur Luttig, Matt Singer, Bob Weiland, Ron Jervis and Russ Moody. Members missing were Mike Pfanku and Odell Anderson. Committee members present Dale Parker and Rudy Nigl.

No minutes from the last meeting, July 22. Only 2 board members present at that time to discuss and review fall field day and give approval for Ron Jervis to travel and turn in expenses from the National Meeting.

Odell Anderson submitted a page of notes in his absence.

Odell is still trying to get information from Greg Edge on Walnut crop trees. Odell is also working on getting out a newsletter on the upcoming walnut collection.

  • 400 bushels (green) have been approved this year for the council to collect. The goal is for members to come up with 20 approved sites to pick from.
  • Matt has trailer to use and is arranging delivery.
  • Weekend of annual meeting there will be a nut-dropping site at the Richland Center office and at the Light on the Land day.


A subcommittee has been formed for the nuts besides the lumber and veneer quality focus of the Tree Improvement Committee.

  • Looking for site to propagate large seeds. Arthur and Bob are willing to have ½ acre sites to plant.
    Mailing set to go out for the newsletter.

Bob motioned to ask Al to arrange groups to pick nuts. Al will handle handing out W-9’s to groups to get paid. Russ Second. Passed.

Treasurers Report
Reviewed report and looked at expenses and income.
Reviewed Ron’s expenses to Kansas with much discussion.
Russ motion to pay ½ of Ron’s expenses this year. This would equal $435 this year. In the future there will be a cap of $400 unless otherwise approved by the board. Arthur second. Passed.

Reviewed Fall Field Day Agenda:
Discussed annual membership meeting agenda.

  • Summarize past year
  • Use committee to present
  • Annual conference reviewed.

Time limit for each talk with a 5-minute cap to keep things moving.

Discussed voting and how the ballots will be set. Ron will fill out survey, send and get results.
Topics to be listed on the survey:

  • Membership Dues
  • Type of field days, places, topics, day of the week, etc.
  • Fundraising events, type
  • Nut picking, Fall Field day keep it going or drop it.
  • What kind of help can WWC help you with
  • Comment area

Dale Parker reviewed membership committee report. Went over the award program for signing up new members.

Approvals to purchase hat and sign for membership meeting.

4 plaques for outgoing members: Rudy Nigl Arthur Luttig, Bob Weiland and Aaron Young

New meeting room needs to be found since CWD has Dodgeville locked up. All board members should come up with ideas for a new place.

Comments received from Bob Weiland are included to note that the Wooded Wetlands Science Forum is being held January 30&31, 2004 at Stevens Point for anyone interested in attending.
