Minutes of membership meeting on 28Feb04
…………at the American Family Insurance Bldg., Madison

8:15 meeting called to order.

Introduced new members. John Oullette, Ed Soleska and Dan Bohlin

Minutes of last meeting were approved.

Treasurer report made by Russ Moody and approved. Russ noted that state annual dues have gone to $10.00.

Committee reports:

Tree Improvement committee; Working to provide quality seedlings. Working with Steve Grant to identify quality seed sources and collection procedures. Dave Hall, working with WOWA’s scientific committee, is willing to help Walnut Council on this project.

National Meeting; Larry Severeid discussed the agenda, will be visiting the Fine Hardwood C in West Lafayette, IN. A very scientific based program. Efforts will be made to coordinate travel.

New Membership; Dan Bohlin is developing “talking points” to be used with new membership. Efforts should be made at the WOWA open houses. Nielsen will get display ant Tri State Stewardship. Bohlin will take it to Lacrosse for a Mississippi stewardship meeting.

Spring Meeting, to be held in May in Iowa County, Matt Singer is the Lead on it.

Fall Meeting to be Sept 18th or Oct 2nd, 2004. Ed Soleska will host, in Jefferson County. See 1978 tree planting, 1980- 1987 direct seeding, Wetland and Prairie Restoration, and mixed hardwood planting.

Arthur Luddig is coordinating a trip to Italy in 2005 or 2006. He and Bob Weiland will be doing some initial recon next month. Trip will include; Europe’s largest walnut grower, a monastery, Europe’s oldest tree stand (2000 year old), Walnut liqueur factory, and Nuremberg gunsmith.


Meeting was adjourned 8:50 to go to Landowner meeting
