Wisconsin Walnut Council Board of Directors Meeting

Directors Present: John Oullette, Jim Widder, Bill Carlson, Larry Severeid, and Don Nichols

Others Present: Dave Ladd

Call to Order: Larry Severeid called the meeting to order.

Welcome of new board members: Larry welcomed Don Nichols to the board.

Secretaries Report: Jason Sable read the minutes. The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report: A net worth of $4,794.62 was reported.

Committee Reports:

            Tree Improvement: Larry Severeid reserved comments until fall field day                                     discussion.

            Website: There was no update for the website.

            Exhibits: The exhibits will be set up at the Madison Area Woodland Owners                                     Conference and the Tri-State Forestry Conference.

            Marketing: There was no marketing report.

            Membership: It was discussed that the board members should personally contact                         old members who have not renewed.

            Public Relations: Nothing to report.

Old Business:

            Preparation for the National Meeting Symposium- 2011

                        The west side of Madison was discussed as a meeting area. The meeting is                         generally held the last weekend of July starting on a Sunday afternoon.

            2008 Activities:

Spring Field Day:

                        Dave Ladds and the Rule Demonstration Forest May 17, 2008

                        An agenda prepared for the original field day was shown and approved.                                     There will be a brief membership meeting, a talk on walnut marketing and                                     rotation age/size, a look at direct seeding vs. conventional planting, and a                           look at marked timber sale and deer exclosures. A catered lunch will be                           researched. A finalized agenda will be made closer to meeting date.

            Fall Field Day:

                        Larry Severeids and Odell Andersons looking at tree improvement                                     sites. October 17 & 18, 2008.

New Business:

            Election of Officers: The following officers were presented and passed for the                                     next year…

                        President: John Ouellette

                        Vice President: Bill Carlson

                        Treasurer: Larry Severeid

                        Secretary: Paul Kloppenburg

            Selection of Board of Directors meeting dates and sites

                        The next meeting was set for Saturday February 23, 2008 before the                                     conference.
