The Wisconsin Council's fall field day was held October 15th at the Sally and John Ouellette's 300 acre farm in Richland Center. It was a beautiful fall day and over 70 people were in attendance. The attendees was divided into 4 groups and walked from one of the 4 stations to the next. One group that was less mobile rode in the trailer pulled by the ford tractor. Each station had a DNR forester who discussed the exhibit or demonstrated a technique. The 4 stations consisted of the alternate row 11 year old hardwood/pine plantings, 4 year old hardood/pineplanting, 25 year old nut planted trees, a host of natural plantings, the prairie, and the shitaki mushroom farm. During the noon lunch break, Dan Bohlin gave a presentation to all regarding the control of exotic species. The afternoon had the group visiting the 33 year old walnut plantation where there was lively discussion in regard to a thinning program. Following this the group went into the woods to view the current group of trees planted in the area where the timber was removed or where the pulp processor had removed the aspen. The group then went to the White House Inn where we had dinner and the annual Walnut Council member's meeting.
